I just now noticed that David Brooks just made an argument for something like value-added assessments at college, which illustrates the adage, "If there's a really, really bad idea, then David Brooks will be in favor of it and will in fact become this instant expert on it because as a person who is essentially a blogger with a column in a newspaper, that is his right."
