President Obama has proposed monumental changes to the way schools are judged and sanctioned under NCLB. Even if Congress doesn’t change the law, the U.S Dept. of Education is going to allow states to change their system of testing and judging the performance of students.

Only in education could it take nine years to replace a system that teachers had almost unanimously condemned shortly after it started. Once again the voices of teachers were ignored throughout the process of implementing this ridiculous law. This was very similar to the way teachers are ignored when it comes to decisions on curriculum and the day-to-day operation of many items in education.

I defy anyone to find a profession where the actual professionals are all but completely ignored. When it comes to matters of educational reform, teachers are usually invited to give token input, and then the so-called
