MARIETTA — Schools could be saying goodbye to Adequate Yearly Progress if Georgia is granted a waiver from federal education officials.

U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson and Georgia Superintendent Dr. John Barge personally submitted a waiver of provisions for the No Child Left Behind Act to U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan on Tuesday.

Superintendents in both of Cobb’s two school districts praised the waiver request.

If the waiver is approved, a school’s success will no longer be determined by AYP, which measures a school’s academic performance based on standardized tests like the CRCT.
