Fragile Families, Vol. 20, Number 2, Fall 2010.

The Fragile Families Study, which is part of the Center for Research on Child Wellbeing, follows a cohort of nearly 5,000 children born in large U.S. cities between 1998 and 2000, roughly three-quarters of whom were born to unmarried parents. The families are referred to as “fragile families” to underscore that they are at greater risk of breaking up and living in poverty than more traditional families. The study was the subject of The Future of Children’s recent volume on Fragile Families, and recently published a report, which summarizes key findings from the study from its baseline year through year five.
