I’ve had a little time to reflect on my night over as Chicago Math and Science Academy, the northside charter that’s
attempting to persuade the NLRB that it’s a private employer and therefore not subject to the public sector collective bargaining laws. There’s a lot at stake, including the issue of card check vs. secret ballot, as well as the whole host of good faith responsibilities the school would have to carry out as a public sector employer under state law. If you take a gander at what’s happened to labor in the private sector, you start to get the idea.
