Charter school board limiting involvement of parents

IVINS - Board members at a local charter school voted Monday to change the school's original charter and put themselves in charge of appointing new board members rather than having elections, drawing objections from some parents who fear the school is being mismanaged.

With the support of some parents and faculty and staff members, the board of Vista at Entrada School of Performing Arts and Technology in Ivins voted 5 to 1 to appoint new members and limit the number of parents who could serve on the board at any time. Two parents could still be elected to the board through a vote by other parents.

"Everything I've seen advises against having too much parent involvement with the board," board member Daren Barney said.
