Parents at McKinley Elementary School in Compton Unified plan to ignore the district’s demand that they show up today or Thursday with an official photo ID to verify their signatures on the state’s first “parent trigger” petition. Organizers are charging that the district’s requirement is a transparent effort to disenfranchise them – many are undocumented immigrants without driver’s licenses – and say they’ve lined up pro bonolawyers to go to court.
