The Parallel System of Public Education

We can't continue to set up a parallel system of public education in the city of Chicago. That's what we're doing right now. On one track, it's selective enrollment and magnet schools and charter schools. On the other track, it's the neighborhood schools. It's time to focus on neighborhood schools, and strengthen those schools, and take low performing schools and convert them into high performing schools, and that can be done without closing schools.
