In the Classroom: Parent involvement key to students' success, educators say

At the end of a 30-minute parent-teacher conference, Kim Simpson and Kimberly Mackey agreed their conversation needs to continue throughout the school year.

“I think keeping good communication with Kim is key — open communication,” said Mackey, whose daughter Aja Tate, 9, is in Simpson’s fourth-grade classroom at Bennett Elementary School in Jackson.

Now is the time of the year when parents sit down with teachers for annual conferences to find out how their children are doing and what improvements they need to make.
