Demanding accountability among teachers across the state, Governor Christie recently announced his plan to set up a new system that would attack tenure and involve merit-based pay.

Governor Christie's proposal calling for merit-based teacher pay has little support from communities in the Northern Valley area and surrounding towns. But there is support for reforming tenure.

Under Christie's reform agenda to rebuild the state's public school system, teachers would receive merit-based pay based on student test scores. Salary increases and raises based on a teacher's seniority would come to an end.

Though many local education administrators agree there's a need to improve the public school system, they say Christie's proposal to
