Students, teachers and workers rallied in the Fountain Court of Gullen Mall October 7 to protest budget cuts on education for the second National Day of Action to Defend Public Education.

With signs that read, “Bail out students, not the banks” and “Defend education,” protesters passed out flyers and gave speeches throughout the event.

Lauren Burnett, a Wayne State senior and protester at the rally, said she has been a senior since 2008.

“I couldn’t get financial aid to finish — I didn’t qualify,” Burnett said. “So, I just feel like the cuts on budgets for education here in colleges and at public schools K-12 have been really heinous and really egregious.”
