NJ Assembly to hold hearings on budget cuts impact

TRENTON, N.J.—Seven New Jersey Assembly panels have hearings scheduled Monday to discuss how the recently enacted state budget is affecting residents and businesses.

But whether the sessions are needed remains the subject of sharp partisan debate.

Democrats who control the chamber say the hearings are needed to review how the major spending cuts that Republican Gov. Chris Christie made to help balance the $29.4 billion budget have impacted the state.

But GOP leaders view them as nothing more than "political theater," noting that the budget bills were passed in June with bipartisan support. They say lawmakers
