Ferndale teachers voted Tuesday to strike, postponing the start of classes that had been scheduled for Wednesday.

The Bellingham Herald reports that a bargaining session with a mediator Tuesday afternoon yielded no progress.

Ferndale Education Association President Tracie Morris says the sticking point is more planning time for elementary school teachers. Morris says they now average 24 minutes a day and the union wants at least
