article this week pointing out that earning a bachelor’s degree in four years is less common than many people assume. Inevitably, all articles touching on college graduation rates must include the obligatory disclaimer that the data we have on graduation rates is actually really bad. Here’s how it appears in the

Nationally, only about 36 percent of students finish within four years, according to the federal data. The three-year graduation rate for community college is even more dismal, with less than a quarter earning an associate’s degree.
