Would paying parents to attend school events be emblematic of innovative education or capitulation to reality?
The answer is yes to both sides of what will likely be an ongoing debate if the Capital School District convinces the Department of Education to support the idea.
With good reason, expect this idea to be targeted by critics from day one.
Rewarding parents to be engaged in school events is a not a given for many, regardless of personal socio-economic circumstances.
It's perfectly understandable for those parents who work hard through complicated family schedules to get to school events with no payments dangling before them to be insulted.
They will want to know, where is the evidence that such a plan will work or make a measurable difference in student performance, the end goal of education reform?
But also expect targeted parents -- those of limited economic
