WEST MILFORD — The Board of Education has heard redistricting proposals from two consultants as it prepares for a possible school closure at the end of the 2010-11 year.
For next year, the elementary school enrollment is expected be down by almost 300 students — or the approximate enrollment of the Paradise Knoll School — since 2007-08. Since its peak in 2003-04, total enrollment is expected to drop by about 800 students.
With that decrease and the 2004 Highlands Act’s restrictions on new development in the watershed township, school officials are considering a school closing — and ensuing redistricting — to save money. But they are unsure if it is the right decision for the system.
