PCAPS To Kick Off Campaign on Tax Abatements

Come to Nightmare on Rittenhouse Square and Join the Monster March for Full School Funding and Tax Fairness.
Protest Tax Abatements for the Rich While Starving Our Schools
Tuesday, 10/29/13, 4:30pm
10 Rittenhouse Square (130 South 18th Street)
Attendees are  encouraged to dress in favorite costumes depicting characters / symbols of corporate greed.  Of the 20 properties with the largest tax abatements four are located in Rittenhouse Square.   These abatements alone are costing Philadelphia Schools $3,801,649 in lost revenue enough to restore 23 teachers  or 35 nurses to our schools.
We will hold a press conference to launch campaign to end tax abatements, release our paper documenting who benefits from these abatements and how they hurt our schools.   Parents, teachers and students will speak.  Following this we will deliver a “Trick or Treat” message in the lobbies of Rittenhouse Square properties that take advantage of tax abatements, and leaflet passersby with information regarding the campaign.
In Philadelphia we give tax breaks to developers and residents to build penthouses like this at the Ritz Carlton Residences on  Rittenhouse Square.

Meanwhile we are closing schools, laying off teachers, nurses, counselors and certified librarians, claiming there is no money.   What is wrong with this picture?
