Jack Kimble Suspends Presidential Campaign

I just got off the phone with my Mitt Romney. Once again, he attempted to fire me and had to be assured that I wasn't on his payroll by several of his people. I congratulated Mitt and informed him, that we still had a long way to go. Education Fairs Reach Out to Parents in Spanish

Spanish-speaking Latino parents often shy away from parent involvement programs like the PTA when the many of the other members primarily speak English. For the past five years, a national Spanish-language education and college-readiness fair called the Feria Para Aprender has aimed to bridge that gap.

Radio station KUT recently reported on the fair hosted by the Austin Independent School District in Texas on Saturday. Superintendent Meria Carstarphen acknowledged that it’s difficult to reach parents when there’s a language barrier. “It is very difficult indeed to navigate the complexity of not only the AISD system for education but also for college and even after college,” she said at the event.

The Austin American-Statesman reported that about 13,000 people attended the event.

A few Elk Grove school district officials and more than 650 members of the Elk Grove Education Association (EGEA) attended a gathering of teachers at the Sacramento Convention Center last month where they heard a call to arms.

Dr. Diane Ravitch, a former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education, declared that American public schools are being ravaged by federal policies, education spending cuts, and powerful corporate interests.

She’s best known for dropping her support of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and then speaking out against the federal policy that requires K-12 public schools to have all of its students become proficient in reading and math by 2014.

Ravitch said the goal is impossible and she argued the requirement is meant to fail public
